Shotokan Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art. Southern Maryland Shotokan Karate Club is a non-profit Karate club dedicated to practicing Shotokan Karate and and learning about Japanese budo culture. All students are trained in stances, body movement, blocking, punching, kicking and striking. Advanced students may be taught throwing and joint manipulation techniques. Shotokan Karate emphasizes both physical, mental and spiritual development as the classes are conducted stressing the principles of character, sincerity, effort, etiquette and self control. Classes are conducted using Japanese terminology.
