I love creating, and I love seeing and being a part of the arts. If I had a few more lives I would choose to be involved in all of the arts. Since this may be my only shot, I have opted for the field of visual art, with a dabble here and there in other disciplines, along the way, with a deep appreciation of them all.
Teamwork exhilarates me to the maximum! By and by, I have come to enjoy people of all types, with our many complexities and differences. This is quite often why the subjects of my art has to do with what moves us, or makes us tick.
Since moving back to the States in June 2005 from The Netherlands where I studied, taught and displayed art; I have had the privilege of working within the community at CSM's Kid's College, La Plata Day, and at the Charles County Fair, facilitating "open air art" where I have classes outside. From my studio, where I not only teach art, I have initiated both talent shows for the community involving all art disciplines, and recycled materials art contests in both Indian Head, and in La Plata.
Around spring of 2008, I was honored by being asked to join the Charles County Arts Alliance board of directors and am now happily serving in my 2nd 2 year term. It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of an organization that has been enabled to facilitate many branches of the arts by divvying up grant money amongst so many deserving grantees, and cultural projects each year. Not to mention, putting on an awesome Arts Fest that helps to bring the community together.
For the past couple of years, I have tried my hand at face painting for local events, and for an Opera performance of Mozart's Magic Flute. It has been wonderful to find skin to be a very worthy canvas.
I would love to partner with other like-minded artists, groups and businesses to create even more in the way of culture in Southern MD. Please let me know if I might be of assistance to you or your organization.
Thanks for letting me share a bit, now it's your turn!
