Barbara Teaches Torch-Fired Enamel
Painting With Fire Artwear … where you can play with fire without getting burned! In this little corner of Bushwood, St. Mary’s County, the focus is on torch-fired enamel. Barbara Lewis, artist, is a popular local teacher who teaches beginning and advanced torch-firing techniques at her studio in Bushwood. She teaches at arts centers in the region, but now will take her show on the road by teaching at national art retreats. She is known as an enthusiastic instructor who generously shares her knowledge without hesitation.
Barbara loves to teach her craft and has started a
networking site for those interested in torch-fired enamel. She explains, “As a result of my magazine articles, I was being contacted with questions regarding this affordable, easy and fun technique. I was answering each question individually before I realized the need for the group … a place for technical and moral support for those interested in torch firing. Even if you’re not currently an enamellist, I encourage you to join our group to check out the work being created by beginning to advanced enamellists. The enthusiasm at the ning is palpable.”
Barbara is writing a book on torch-fired enamel for release by North Light Books in Summer 2011. She loves to receive emails from people interested in learning more about her technique. Please
contact Barbara at for a studio visit. She also is a Thompson Enamel distributor and maintains a comprehensive inventory of enamels, torches, and other supplies.
