A must-have for Shark enthusiasts
Take a captivating tour of the world of sharks on Sunday, March 20 at the Calvert Marine Museum with Sunday Conversations with Chesapeake Authors series. This month features Nick Caloyianis, photographer for “The Shark Handbook” at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Nick will share his remarkable photography and his exciting experiences shooting pictures; fun for all ages! Books are available in the museum store and a book signing will follow the presentation. A professional photographer and film producer specializing in underwater photography, Nick will have the special diving suit he wears and his camera equipment on hand to help tell the story. The presentation will include a behind-the-scenes look at the world’s first-ever video and stills taken of the once obscure and mysterious Greenland shark living in the Arctic Ocean. See exciting highlights from his many award-winning productions and his recent experiences with Great White sharks in Cape Cod waters. His still images have appeared in elite publications around the world and his work is featured in Discovery Channel’s Shark Week 2011.
Sunday Conversations with Chesapeake Authors, funded by The Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium and the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority, with support from the Holiday Inn Solomons, has been a great time to enjoy books and presentations with local Chesapeake authors and illustrators. The last lecture in this free series will be on Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Karen Shanor presenting “Bats Sing, Mice Giggle – The Surprising Science of Animals’ Inner Lives.”
The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors and military with valid I.D., and $2.00 for children ages 5 – 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
