The Solomons Riverwalk was a popular spot for the 2011 Quick Draw and we’re holding it there once again. This year, however, the QD will be on Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the judging and sales occurring immediately afterward. Artists will bring their easels to the Solomons Gazebo on the Riverwalk, where they will display their completed paintings for judging and selling. Having the sales on location will add to the excitement of purchasing the art while it’s still “wet”. It also allows for any unsold QD paintings to be hung that evening during the culminating festivities and sale. Commission due to the Festival for paintings sold is 40%.
And, all are invited to the NEW Collectors’ Champagne Reception Sat 2-3 pm and the “Affaire of the Arts” on Sat evening 6-9pm (free) to view the finished work of art and purchase the 2012 poster, all proceeds for poster go toward the CSM Art Scholarship Fund.
NEW Collectors’ Champagne Reception
This year we are adding a collectors’ preview reception prior to opening the sales to the general public. On Saturday, from 2 – 3 pm, collectors are invited to a private champagne reception at Carmen’s Gallery to preview the paintings from the competition and chat with the participating artists. The collectors’ entrance fee of $100 is applicable toward any Festival painting purchased at the reception. Artists are encouraged and expected to attend this event.
“Affaire of the Arts”
The “Affaire of the Arts” is the culminating event of the competition. Artists are expected to attend this event. The Affaire is from 6 pm until 9 pm. Here the competition winners will be announced, the prizes awarded, and the paintings sold. Collectors will have an informal chance to chat with the artists and festival judge Dee Beard Dean. Additionally, it will be a great party! We have live musical entertainment, refreshments, and a cash bar. (Artists receive one complimentary drink.) We will also have this year’s collectible Solomons Plein Air Festival 2012 print available for sale. NOTE: The “Affaire of the Arts” honors the festival judge, Dee Beard Dean. There will be a separate display area in the gallery where Dean’s beautiful oil paintings will be on display and for sale. Note: Festival commission for paintings sold by participating artists is 40%.
We thank you so much for your interest in being part of our Solomons Plein Air Festival 2012. We anticipate that this will be the best ever - thanks to you!
